The Blue Pools
The Blue Pools. Near Mt. Aspiring National Park, New Zealand, South Island - 2/14/2012.
The name if this location is inviting enough to make me pull right over and take a short hike with no idea what I would find. After a walk through thick steamy forest, I found myself crossing two extremely long rope bridges to my ultimate destination above the beautiful blue pools. The water is glacier fed and presents a deep bluish-green color that was simply too inviting not to jump into, providing instant relief from the sub-tropical sunshine warming the air. The crystal clear water reminds me a great deal of one of my favorite spots in Oregon, but to find a somewhat familiar feeling location like this on the other side of the world was unexpected and gratifying.
