I've been in Moab for the end of the world...
I spent New Year's Eve at the turn of the century in Canyonlands National Park for sunset, then the small town of Moab at midnight. There were some people who believed the end of the world would come that night. Y2K caused chaos would command computers around the world to send thousands of ICBM missiles heading towards every corner of the planet. It didn't happen of course and the sun rose the next day as it has for millennia.
This cold, clear, moonlit night was the last full night of the Mayan calendar. The world didn't end and I left Moab a few days later with a couple of memorable shots and a sturdy resolve that if the world is ever destined to end again in my lifetime, all I have to do is go to Moab and patiently wait for the sun to rise again.
